Hello,

As in a previous thread, sooner or later you will want/need a bigger tool.

Trying to compare the pros & cons of the 12x36 vs 13x40, hedging towars the 13x40....yet you offer 2 versions of a 13x40 lathe and wondering what the differences are for the substantial price difference.  The 3001-0040 and the 3001-0021.  Does the 021 come with a stand?  Yet the weight is 180 lbs less and the price is $700 more.  Can you tell me what the differences are?  Is there any way to find out what the shipping cost to Phoenix (terminal pick-up)?  More $$$ freight = less $$$ tooling.

Thanks,

Mike in Phoenix

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum!
I have bad news, the 3001-0040 is no longer available:( I just sent a nasty e-mail to our webmaster about it.8o|
The 3001-0021 comes with stands and is 2 HP, single phase.
Do you have 3 phase power? we have a special offer on the 3001-0020 which is the same as the single phase 3001-0021, but 3 phase.
Do you have a zip code for Phoenix? my transport guy is going to ask...
Don

Hello,

No 3 phase in my garage.  The zip is 85028 I do have a truck so if I can save by doing a terminal pick-up vs residential liftgate charges.

After going from the mini mill to a 45clone...I could tell it was time to get a new lathe.  While limited by $$, I want to go as large as possible.  What are the advantages of a 13 vs 12?

Thanks for your help,

Mike
PS great price on your band saw 3024-0010 can you tell me freight charges on it seperatly?

Good morning Mike,
The estimated freight to Phoenix shipped out of our Tulsa store is $350.00, the freight for the saw alone is $100.00.

Either is fine Mike, but it might be easier to call, as you will most likley end up on the phone any way, as it is a freight shipment.

Don,

Ordered the saw.  Can't wait, tired of the flying mess and sparks from the "chop saw".

What are the real advantages (other than capacity) of a 13" (largest still 1ph) vs the more common and better priced 12" lathes.  Since I am upgrading and have a cap on total cost, should I wait and get the 13" or settle for the 12"?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

Is there a PDF of the manual for the 3001-0021 available? My Buddy is interested in purchasing one.

Is there a manual for the 3001-0020 3-phase model? I need to see how it is wired so I can determine if I can connect up a VFD inverter to run the motor.

The control circuit should be the same, I just checked and the manual for the 3 phase has the same diagram. I believe the panel has the same 24v components...
I have attached a edited page 13 to show the 3 phase switching...

Thank you. Another question, the manual states the through hole at 38mm/1.5in and the website states 1.375. What is correct?

Well, I just slid a 1-1/2" TS drill through the one we have on display, with room to spare...
They used to come in with the through hole "unfinished", the 1/3/8" could easily be opened to 1-1/2" by either reaming or boring, but it did not come that way, so our copy says 1-3/8", in case one missed getting that final cut...

I have an order in for this lathe but I am second guessing compared to the 3001-0015 but it is not in stock.
