Do you guys sell parts for the 14x40 lathe I bought a 3 years ago? When turning off the lathe with the handle, you have to wait a minute for the off switch to kick in. It 's done it ever since I've had but, the small wait was no biggie for me, the wait has turned into not shutting off period. It started doing this a couple days ago.  I pulled the headstock cover off the end of the lathe and below the headstock gears there's an electrical box with a clear cover and the micro switches are inside. One of the 2 screws that mount the 2 switches was loose, so I tightened them but it had no effect.  1 switch is for forward and the other switch is for reverse. The Reverse switch works properly, so I'll probably reverse the wiring and use the reverse switch for forward and replace the switch for reverse.

My question is, do you sell replacement parts for these lathes?  Here's the info on the micro-switch.

DELIXI LXW5-11D it's a 3 connector switch... 1-comm, 2-on , 3-NC the size is 17.5mmx49.7mm probably a SPDT switch. Google brings up nothing on this switch.  I'm sure somebody makes a replacement for it, ie. Digikey, mouser.

Thanks
Paul

Paul,
competitors (check your PM's) should have that micro switch, I can get the OEM, but competitors is usually cheaper & faster. I would check the magnetic contactor also, the micro-switch is a straight off/on, it is not prone to hang ups, contactors are...

Thanks Don for the reply, your probably right, the micro switch seems to be fine, I was unaware of the contactor being used. My brother is an electrician, plus he's alot skinner also, to get back in behind the lathe. :) I'll have him to take a look at it this weekend.

http://sensing.honeywell.com/index.cfm?ci_id=140301&la_id=1&pr_id=111701 would probably be a direct replacement for the micro switch, but that's probably not the problem, sticking would be more of a relay/contactor problem as you stated.

Sometimes you can lube them (the contactor) with a electrical grade silicone lube and the stick will go away..

The 14x40 is back in service, to locate the defective contactor, we turned the lathe on then put the lever in the stop position, in which the lathe kept running, we then used the wooden handle of a ball-peen hammer to tap on the suspected contactor, in which it clicked and turned the lathe off. My brother the electrician pulled the contactor and disassembled the contactor and the contacts inside were black and pitted badly. We used an angle grinder and some 3m 2" surface reconditioning pads and it cleaned the contacts back to looking new again. Re-assembled the contactor and it's working like new again. The E-Stop wasn't working before either and it now works again also. We didn't have any silicon contact lubricant, but I'll go back and shoot some on the contacts. The lathe was made in 2006, I use it once and while, it's probably been used less than 100 hrs since I've had it, it's hard to believe the contacts could be so nasty. Oh well, live and learn.;)
